Due to the use of the herbs, specially saffron, the Amsterdam onion, unlike the silver onion, has a yellow appearance.

Amsterdam hand-peeled onions are large silverskin onions that are coloured.
Amsterdam onions are peeled individually, which is of course very labour-intensive.
