After the closure of the Zuiderzee in 1932, the Westland family had to give up their fishing life.
Inspired by the delicious cheese that mother Westland brought back from Amsterdam, the young Westland brothers started a small cheese warehouse on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam.
It was only years later, thanks to a tireless search, even beyond the country's borders, that they managed to recreate the taste of their youth.
This is how Old Amsterdam was born: matured in taste, young at heart.

In 1985, Old Amsterdam was officially introduced in the Netherlands.
Shortly after its introduction, the quirky cheese proved to be a resounding success at home and abroad.

Old Amsterdam has the following character: spicy and slightly sweet, full of ripening crystals and smooth and sliceable.
