Leffe is a Belgian abbey beer. The beer brand is named after the Abbey of Leffe in Dinant.
Leffe Abbey was founded in 1152 by the Norbertines of Floreffe.
In 1240, the monks acquired the Saint-Médart brewery, on the other side of the Meuse, and transferred it to the abbey itself.
